Position Description:
The laboratory of Dr. Denise Montell in the Neuroscience Research Institute at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a full-time Assistant Project Scientist position. Responsibilities will include designing, executing, and analyzing experiments with the final goal of identifying the molecular mechanisms regulating anastasis, the process of recovery from the
brink of cell death. The appointee will provide regular updates on his/her/their progress in the form of oral presentations. The appointee is expected to be knowledgeable in the field, trained in
confocal microscopy, able to develop new tools in the form of cell lines or Drosophila stocks. The appointee will be expected to make significant conceptual contributions to the project.

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A doctorate degree in cellular and molecular biology or related field is required.

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
A minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral experience.

Preferred qualifications
A very solid research and publication record. The ideal candidate will have experience in:

  •  Drosophila and human genetics

  • Confocal and light microscopy

  • High throughput imaging systems

  • Screening design and execution

  • Image analysis (manual and automated)

  • Optogenetics and genetically encoded sensors
